An Edwardian Musica Revue for the Holidays
It’s Christmastide in Edwardian New York City.
Mrs. Theodora Narcissa Chattlethwaite, President of the Lower Upper 5th Avenue Arts Society, is hosting her annual Christmas Tea Musicale - an evening of music and prose presented by her talented family, her husband (Mephistopheles Alphaneus Chattlethwaite), her pianist, two nieces and two charming waifs from the Orphanage at Our Lady of Perpetual Perspiration.
As Mrs. Chattlethwaite hosts her evening, sipping her “special” Christmas tea, popular and holiday music of the 19th Century and early 1900’s fill the room -
with nostalgia, romance, humor and a touch of bawdiness.
It’s a musical Edwardian Christmas card come to life.
The Cast
Characters:
(All must sing!)
Mrs. Theodora Narcissa Chattlethwaite (written to be performed by male actor in drag). She considers herself an accomplished singer, arts benefactor, etc.
Mr. Mephistopheles Alphaneus Chattlethwaite, the stalwart head of the household. Begrudgingly helps Mrs. C. in her artistic and social endeavours.
Jasper Bartholomew Sterling: a young, handsome man (early 20's) under the tutelage of Mrs. C. A lovely singer and quiet young man. He harbors a secret of the heart.
Chester & Bentley McEllison: Two 12-year old twin boys with tremendous singing skills. They are on loan to Mrs. C. from the Orphanage of Our Lady of Perpetual Perspiration.
Crustacea & Virtue Chattlethwaite: Twin 16+ twin girls who sing and dance to the amazement of their family. They are both 16, going on 30.
Dobney Mittleborsch:
. The pianist. A handsome brilliantly talented pianist who tolerates Mrs. C.'s lack of musical finesse with aplomb. Dobney is the romantic interest, unwittingly, of Jasper Sterling.
First and foremost a musical revue, the show incorporates over 20 holiday and novelty songs from the 19th century through the 1900's.
